“Dari hasil penelitian, air sumur yang tercemar bakteri coliform tersebut melebihi ambang batas,yaitu di atas 50/100 mls,” ungkap Kasi Penyehatan Lingkungan Dinkes Sleman Yonantan kemarin. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut, air sumur yang paling banyak tercemar coliform terdapat di tiga kecamatan,yaitu Kecamatan Moyudan,Cangkringan, dan Turi.
Sumur yang paling rendah tercemar bakteri coliform terdapat di Kecamatan Mlati dan Depok. Selain meneliti syarat bakteorologi, pihaknya melakukan penelitian air dari segi kimiawi terhadap 829 air sumur warga.Dari jumlah ini,748 atau 90,23 % memenuhi syarat kimiawi dan 81 atau 9,77% yang tidak memenuhi syarat. Memang syarat kimiawi ini tidak menyebabkan gangguan kesehatan, melainkan hanya akan menyebabkan korusi (karat) pada perkakas yang terkena air ini.

“Karena itu,barang-barang dari luar akan mudah masuk ke dalam sumur. Dengan masuknya benda ke dalam sumur,tentu akan mempengaruhi kualitas air tersebut,” kata Yonantan. Penelitian air sumur tersebut merupakan kegiatan rutin yang dilakukan setiap tahun. Hasil penelitian tersebut akan menjadi salah satu acuan dalam mengambil kebijakan terhadap kesehatan masyarakat. “Dari hasil penelitian itu,kami merekomendasikan kaporitisasi terhadap sumur warga,” ucapnya.
Upaya perbaikan kualitas air sumur, selain dengan melakukan pembinaan, pihaknya meminta warga segera memperbaiki fisik sumur mereka. Termasuk harus menjaga sanitasi lingkungan. Dari hasil penelitian, kebanyakan terjadinya pencemaran, banyak resapan air dari luar di fisik sumur tersebut. ”Untuk hal ini, kami juga akan memberikan stimulan untuk perbaikan sarana,air sumur warga yang tercemar coliform,”ungkapnya.
